August dinner line-up:

> Karen Phillips is currently the Group Leader for IT at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, but she is a not a true geek. She has a degree in psychology, philosophy and logic and a Masters in Health Psychology. Having spent a very long time teaching adults, she discovered coaching about 5 years ago. After completing her initial coach training, Karen then went on to become licensed as a facilitator for the Coaching Clinic so that she could combine her long time passion for teaching with her new found love of coaching. She is also licensed to deliver two other coaching courses and maintains a small practice coaching individuals and small groups.

Yvonne McLean is an Executive Coach and the Programme Director for the NZ Global Women, Women in Leadership initiative. She has a degree in Modern Languages and was a lawyer for 22 years before seeing the light and changing career 6 years ago. Her last legal job was as the Lead Lawyer for Microsoft in the UK. She now works full time as an Executive Coach and facilitator, specialising in leadership development. Like Karen, she is licensed to deliver the Coaching Clinic, the IGNITE Leadership Coaching programme and one other coaching course. She loves working with high potential and senior executives, especially women.

Presentations:

> Session 1: Software Piracy by Yvonne McLean

"Do you know Captain Hook, Mum?"

  • Overview of what I did at Microsoft
  • What were some of the legal issues I grappled with for a large IT company
  • Software theft and some stories about what we did to combat it

> Session 2: Coaching by Yvonne and Karen

Yvonne and Karen will provide a brief overview of what coaching is and how it works both for individuals and for companies. Come along with a small issue and find out for yourself how effective coaching can be. (You won’t be sharing this with anyone else!)

If you need inspiration, here’s a few of the smaller issues that are quite common:

  • "There’s someone at work I just can’t get along with"
  • "I need to tell someone something they really won’t like and I keep putting it off"
  • "There’s this cupboard in my house that is a real mess and I can’t ever seem to find the time to attack it"
  • "I am stuck in a rut with my job/relationship/living arrangements etc etc."
